Introduction

Also known as the golden pavilion kinkaku ji .It is known by many names such as kinkanku ji, kinkaju ji etc. One of Japan’s most famous sites is Kin kaku-ji, usually referred to as the Golden Pavilion, which is an example of Kyoto’s rich cultural legacy. It has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.this Zen Buddhist temple is known for its unique architecture and stunning beauty.

It is Located inside the Rokuon-ji Temple complex.Kinkaku-ji, or the Golden Pavilion, is located in Kyoto, Japan. Specifically, it is situated in the northern part of the city.

History

kinkakuji temple was Constructed in 1397 , Kinkaku-ji was slowly transformed into a Zen temple as per shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu desires.

Even though kinkanku ji was rebuilt after being destroyed by fires during the war, Kinkaku-ji has been forcefully brought back to its former splendour.it was given the name Rokuon-ji, meaning “Deer Garden Temple.” Kinkaku-ji faced destruction in 1950 when a mentally disturbed monk set fire to the temple. The present-day structure is a faithful reconstruction completed in 1955.

Design

kin kaku ji has distinct architectural style on each floor: the first floor is in the Shinden style, the second floor is in the Bukke style, and the third floor is in Chinese Zen hall-like design.The upper part of the pavilion are beautifully decorated with gold leaf, which is related to the Kitayama culture of the Muromachi era.
